One of the very first things I notice when Projectors come to me for help regarding their business is how burned out and drained their energy is.
They have their coffee in hand, the energy just seems more forceful and like it’s trying so hard to make it up a mountain.
But we quickly change that around in our call together.
One of the things I constantly hear is “I just feel so safe, heard, and like I can relax. It’s refreshing.”
This is not uncommon for Projectors — to be drained and burned out — but I will tell you that it is NOT a normal thing. You aren’t meant to be burned out. You aren’t meant to be constantly drained. You aren’t meant to be running on fumes just to get by.
So, let’s take a look at some of the things that could completely change this around for you in your own life.
5 things to do to stop burning out
Of course, this list could apply to more than just projectors. Anyone has the ability to burn themselves out. I just know that projectors seems to burn out more than any other type I’ve encountered so far.
1. Stop overcommitting yourself
You don’t have to be everything to everyone or be everywhere.
You need time to yourself to recharge. Even if you’re the most extroverted person, your projector energy needs time to rest and just detox from others.
You don’t have to go camping in the woods off the grid to achieve this, although you could if you want to! Usually this looks like saying “no” more often.
I know that may trigger some people-pleasing habits and all sorts of other limiting beliefs. So just take a moment and breathe. If these are coming up for you, try to figure out why this is your first response. Did someone tell you that you couldn’t say no if you wanted to be “a good friend”? Did someone show you that constantly working and going going going was the way to success? What is the underlying reason you may believe that you can’t say no?

But getting back to it; start saying “no” more often. Start prioritizing yourself. What would make you have more energy right now? Do you really want to go out or do you want to take a relaxing bath? Neither answer is wrong. It’s only about what works best for YOU.
Which this actually leads us to point number 2.
2. If you’re getting burned out from your business – make plans outside of it
I know you probably love your business (at least, you should! If you don’t maybe it’s time to check in and pivot), but you also need to spend time just doing things you LOVE that aren’t your business.
What are you passionate about?
What do you really enjoy doing?
If you’re not sure, it’s time to find some things that you do enjoy.
Test something new out. Think back to when you were younger, what did you always want to do or what did you dream of doing?
3. Get in touch with friends
Especially right now with the state of the world, it’s important to keep in contact with those who you care about.
You don’t have to meet up with them in person, you can do a zoom call or Facebook messenger call. Find some way to connect to others.
It’ll help you get out of your own head. Especially for Self-Projected and Mental Projectors! I’m a self-projected projector too, and I know the lure my own brain has on me. But I also know that when I spend too much time up there, I start getting into overthinking and spirals that just aren’t healthy for me! Talking to others REALLY helps lighten that and helps me come back down to Earth.
4. Lessen your caffeine intake
I know, I know. Don’t throw your coffee at me yet!
You don’t have to give up coffee. You can start doing half decaf or full decaf instead.
The reason I say to lessen your caffeine intake is because it’s actually preventing you from getting truly in touch with your natual rhythms of energy.
Caffeine and sugar are two things that projectors tend to have an unhealthy amount of. Because we’re trying to prove that we can keep up with the world (and many time, surpass them!)
But believe me, it won’t help long term.
I used to have 12 shots of espresso per day.
That’s a looooot of fucking caffeine.
And when I didn’t have caffeine, sugar was my second option.
I felt fine at the time. But I spent one week without coffee or sugar and it was like hell. Withdrawls, brain fog, fatigue, etc. I honestly thought I was dying.
I realized then how much my body is affected by caffeine.
Again, I’m not saying to give it up completely. But perhaps reduce it.
You’ll start sleeping better.
And hey, if it doesn’t help at all, by all means continue on. I’m not a doctor, I’m just a person.

5. Drink more water
The population is very dehydrated as a whole. We’re barely getting enough water to stay healthy.
Try drinking at least 8 – 8 oz cups of water each day.
Again, if it’s not helping you, don’t listen to me. These things aren’t set in stone; they’re just what I’ve found helps most people I’ve talked to.
Water helps your body function as well as helps your brain, memory, and gives you energy.
There are definitely more things you could be doing to improve your energy overall, but start here. See what works for you and leave what doesn’t.
After all, it’s your life.
But I’d personally rather have more energy than not. So here are my ideas on how to start getting more energy and getting out of burnout.
